Fractional CMO Retainer

You don't need another marketing person. You need a marketing function that runs without you.

I'm a fractional CMO for owner-led services businesses doing £200k to £500k a year, where the founder is the marketing department and nothing compounds. In 90 days, I'll install a single best-fit acquisition channel, the CRM and reporting to measure it, and a clear monthly review cadence you'll actually trust.

From £350 a month. Minimum three months. No agency retainer wrappers, no junior account managers, no slide decks for the sake of slide decks.

Is this for you?

Who this works for. And who it doesn't.

I'll be honest about both. Saves us both a wasted call.

This works if you're...

An owner-led services business doing £200k-£500k. The work is good but marketing is whatever you can squeeze in at 10pm.

Spending money on an agency or freelancer and not sure if it's working.

Plateaued, with referrals tapped out, and need a second acquisition channel that doesn't depend on you doing it all yourself.

Ready to make changes, not just talk about them.

This won't work if you...

Want someone to "just do my social media." That's a freelancer, not a CMO.

Have an existing marketing team of 3+ doing well and just want occasional strategy advice.

Are doing under £100k and need to focus on sales fundamentals before marketing strategy will pay back.

Want a magic bullet that doesn't involve any work on your end.

What's included

What £350 a month actually buys you.

Not a slide deck. Not a strategy document that sits in a Google Drive folder no one opens. A live, working marketing function that compounds over the three months.

Marketing strategy

Channel selection, positioning, pricing review, offer design. The strategic decisions that determine whether the next 6 months grows the business or wastes the budget.

Execution advisement

I work alongside whoever's actually doing the work - your team, your agency, your freelancer. I direct, review and refine. You don't pay agency markups on execution you can buy direct.

Reporting and measurement

The dashboards and reviews that show whether the strategy is working. Weekly numbers, monthly board-style review, no vanity metrics, no "engagement" without revenue tied to it.

Direct access

Phone, WhatsApp, email. I'm in your business 5 to 10 hours a month, not on retainer calls answering "thanks for your message, I'll get back to you Tuesday."

Pricing

Two retainers. Both straightforward.

3-month minimum. No agency markups, no setup fees, no surprise invoices. Cancel after the minimum at any time, on a month's notice.

5 Hours

£350/month

For businesses where the strategy and direction is the bottleneck. Ideal if you've got the people to execute but no one steering the ship.

  • 5 hours of CMO time per month
  • Strategy, positioning, channel selection
  • Monthly review and roadmap update
  • Execution advisement on what you're already running
  • Phone / WhatsApp / email access
  • 3-month minimum, then rolling monthly

How it works

From signed up to results. 90 days.

Week 1: Audit

Deep dive into your business, current marketing, CRM, numbers and channels. End of week one, you'll have a written diagnosis and a 90-day plan.

Weeks 2-4: Install

Channel selection, positioning work, CRM and reporting setup, briefing whoever's executing. By end of week four, the engine is running.

Weeks 5-10: Optimise

Weekly numbers, monthly reviews, tactical adjustments. We learn what's working, double down, kill what isn't.

Weeks 11-12: Hand over

The marketing function runs without me being the bottleneck. You either renew month-by-month for ongoing oversight, or we hand over cleanly and I'm one call away when you need me.

FAQ

The questions you'd ask on the call.

Why not just hire a marketing manager?

If you can afford a £45k-£60k marketing manager plus the cost of the mistakes they'll make in their first six months learning your business, that's a good move. For most businesses at £200k-£500k, that hire is a stretch and the mistake cost is the killer.

A fractional CMO gets you 14 years of marketing experience for the cost of a part-time admin. You don't get someone full-time, but you get someone who already knows what works, doesn't need training, and can be in and out in three months if that's all you need.

If you're at a stage where a full-time hire makes sense, I'll tell you that on the call. I'd rather you got the right answer than a different invoice from me.

I already use an agency. Why would I need this?

Agencies execute. Fractional CMOs decide what gets executed. Two different jobs.

If your agency is delivering campaigns, ads, content, social posts - great, keep them. My job is the level above that: deciding what channels you should even be on, whether your offer is right, whether the agency is briefed properly, and whether what you're spending is actually moving revenue.

In practice this often means I sit between you and your agency, asking the questions you didn't know to ask, and stopping you paying for execution that's pointed in the wrong direction.

How is this different from any other consultant?

Three differences that matter.

One: I do execution advisement, not just strategy. Most consultants hand you a 40-page deck and disappear. I'm in your business weekly or monthly for 3+ months making sure the strategy actually gets built.

Two: I run a digital marketing agency and a CRM platform myself. The advice you get is from someone who's currently running the things I'm advising you on - not from someone whose last operational role was in 2014.

Three: The price. £350 a month is not normal fractional CMO pricing. Most charge £2k-£8k a month. I've kept the entry point honest because the businesses that need this most can't afford the rates the industry quotes.

What do I actually get for £350 a month?

5 hours of my time per month, used however serves your business best. Typically that's a monthly strategy review (2 hours), a check-in midway through the month (1 hour), and 2 hours spread across email, WhatsApp and ad-hoc questions through the month.

You also get the artefacts: the written 90-day plan from the audit week, the monthly review document with numbers and decisions, and the channel and positioning work documented so it's yours to keep even if we part ways.

What you don't get for £350 a month is execution. I don't write your emails, run your ads, or post on your behalf - that's what the 10-hour package extends towards, or what your agency/freelancer should be doing.

What if it's not working after the first month?

That's exactly why the minimum is 3 months and not 12. Marketing strategy needs at least 90 days to show whether it's working - one month isn't enough to tell signal from noise.

That said, by end of month one you should have a clear written plan, the early changes in motion, and a sense of whether we're a good fit to work together. If after month two you're not seeing the early indicators move, we'll have a frank conversation about whether the plan needs changing or whether it's not the right time.

After the 3-month minimum, it's rolling monthly with a month's notice. No 12-month contracts, no exit fees.

Find out if your business is a fit. In 20 minutes.

Run the audit for the written teardown, or book a discovery call. Either way costs you nothing and you'll leave with at least one useful idea to act on.
